Calm In Caddens
This two-year-old, contemporary home had good bones and foundations but felt very cold and empty. The client wished to achieve a warmer and ‘homely’ feel, and we were able to achieve this by incorporating some soft, calming elements that contrast with its clean, modern shell.
The spaces that were reworked were the entryway, lounge room, dining room, master bedroom and alfresco area.
As you walk into its now inviting entryway, you are met by some floating, ambient pendant lighting, textural artwork and an organic-shaped wall mirror. We took away the original high-gloss white and glass furniture and replaced it with a low-sheen white buffet with ribbed detailing. At the end of the hallway, the seafoam colour of the client’s sofa is picked up in a new seating area in the hallway and some textural artwork. This creates a visual link so the spaces feel more connected.
As you enter the open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen, we’ve kept the tones subtle and warm via the use of oak timbers and grey-taupe linen roman blinds so that the colour of the lounge was accentuated. The seating in the dining room was replaced with chunky, boucle cantilever chairs and a curved oak dining table allows easy access when walking towards the doors to outside. Soft white, sheer drapes with a 3-metre drop were also added in this room to bring your eye up to the home’s beautiful high ceilings and obscure the harsh aluminium door frames.
In the master bedroom, we kept it fairly neutral and calming, apart from one large piece of artwork opposite the bed. Instead of layering colour, we chose to work around the clients existing bed suite and layered textures in different tones with items such as the linen roman blinds, linen bedding, a boucle occasional seat and a chunky knitted rug.
In the alfresco space, we replaced and repositioned the outdoor dining table to make way for a lounge setting so that the client can utilise the area for complete outdoor entertaining.
